COWGIRLS NOVEMBER LUNCHEON - MONDAY NOVEMEBR 11, 2024
11:30 AM- 1 PM, AT LITTLE AMERICA HOTEL, Cheyenne, WY
GUEST SPEAKER - MIKE KASSEL, Curator, CFD Old West Museum
Presentation: Great things have small beginnings! Harvey Deselms and The Capitol Avenue Bronze Project
In 2010, Harvey Deselms had a vision of placing public art on the street corners of Cheyenne’s downtown business district. His original thought was to fill the 17th Street corridor with bronzes of animals. Inspired by how this display would enhance the community, he set to work. Progress was slow with only a few new pieces of art placed over the next decade. At that pace, a lifetime would be required to finish the project.
Then, in 2021, a fortuitous set of circumstances and the right combination of people converged and a sweeping new enterprise was born. Inspired by Harvey’s original vision, the Capitol Avenue Bronze Project blossomed into a remarkable affair that would become a testament to Wyoming’s incredible experience.
The stories of our state’s people, animals and industry have been captured in bronze and every street corner of Capitol Avenue now has a story to tell.
In a shocking period of only twenty-one months, Harvey’s vision was realized. Join Mike Kassel as he explores how this amazing project took flight and the efforts that many artists and patrons undertook to take the Capitol Avenue Bronze Project to completion- and beyond!
